Elizabeth Revisited by essiemichelle Elizabeth Revisited by essiemichelle
A while ago I had drawn Elizabeth but it just was complete...you know. So I've redrawn her and though there are some things I'm not crazy about, I'm happy with it. I really tried with the hair this time, taking breaks and being more patient. I think it's an improvement, yeah? Oh, and I gave her ribbon stripes. The design it is originally was just too much for me to even consider drawing.

If you have any suggestions or advice, feel free to send it my way. Thanks! Hi!

Update: I found it! I found who did the original render and pose. All credit goes to this fine fellow and here is the original pose: www.deviantart.com/art/3DS-Max…

Thanks! I've been trying to improve for a while now and it's very nice to hear what you said. I'm still learning, but I'll keep going! Hmm, this took I'd say about 6-7 hours. I don't know if that's a long time or short, but it's longer for me. I took a break in between right before I got to the hair because that's the most intimidating part for me.

7 Hours ? Wow, it's kinda good for a portrait drawing like this. no wonder it's so pretty-detailed. :D I've draw Elizabeth for once and it took me 19-25 hours to finish it.
But Yeah, hair is surely a hard work. i can see it myself. :iconeheheplz:

Is that a long time? I took much more time to do this drawing than any of my others. Oof, that's a long time! But I'm sure it turned out wonderfully. It sure is! Hair tied up is hard to draw, too. Rage

Long time? No.. it's..... Great. It only take 7 hours for you to draw a full portrait. However, it took me longer than that to draw a full face. :giggle:
Yeah, it was a bit long, maybe i need to practice more ^^; But i've done it last month and she's in my gallery now. I don't like to leave her in a blank background so... i've added something more.
So, is there another problem besides drawing a hair? :?

I probably could have taken more time to draw and to really be patient, but...practice makes perfect and practice is what I'll do!

Oh no, I think it's good you take your time to draw. It means a better product in the end, I think. Mm, I understand wanting to draw a background. I'm not very good at background stuff right now so I never include it. I checked out your drawing of Elizabeth and it's very good! (:

Hmm, mainly just getting the darkest parts dark and not having a horrible transition with highlights, but I think I'm getting the hang of it. (:

This is the only hand-drawn portrait of Elizabeth that IMO retains all the peculiarities that confer to the original tridimensional model its enchanting beauty. I'm gonna keep it because it's the only art where Elizabeth is exactly as she is. You captured her. Well done. Excellent.

The magic is in the eyes. By looking at them you can see she's sweet, smart and determined. All the key qualities Elizabeth has. You got right not just her outer beauty, but her inner beauty too. That's what I call a portrait. :) (Smile)

Well I call that an accomplisment then! Haha, thank you and for saying so on Facebook and on my writing.
I imagine Elizabeth got her mother's looks, seeing as she doesn't look too much like *SPOILER* Booker. But Elizabeth is a beauty, and though I don't really favor her in the Burial At Sea DLC, she still has lovely eyes.

Well, no, she doesn't look like like Booker ...But imagine if she did (a female Booker in Lady Comstock's dress... OMG... what a sight... I'll never sleep again...), that would have spoilt the final revelation and Ken Levine didn't want that, he wanted the end of Bioshock Infinite to be the best disconcerting / heart-shattering end of ever in the videogames' history. Think I was shipping Booker and Elizabeth during the whole thing... Sometimes I happened to mentally say to Booker "Why don't you hug her? Why don't you hold her?? Can't you see that she's scared / anguished / in pain??" (and what if Booker really did that? How could that be considered improper?) But no, he didn't raise a finger, 'cause Ken Levine needed you to suffer 'till the end... and even during the credits.

As for Burial at Sea, I don't know, they changed Elizabeth's look and personality in order to write a plot for these DLCs, I don't know if they realize they're risking to spoil her lyricism, provided that they haven't done that already, especially with this second chapter (but no, they won't, after all we can still ignore Burial at Sea and consider BI only to be canon).

*shivers*
I'd say it's a good thing Elizabeth didn't look like Booker. She'd still probably be pretty, but just not the same. Well, Mr. Levine definitely did catch a lot of players off guard with that ending. Though I wish Liz and Booker were never related, it was still a fabulous ending. Oh, I was shipping them right from the beginning when she hit him with the book! And I'm not gonna lie, I was slightly uncomfortable with the ending because I was still shipping them... Oh yes, there were times where Elizabeth really needed comfort and I was wondering why Booker never really did. He was always consoling her with words though. I'll give Booker that.

I think if I just change my mindset to thinking that the DLC Elizabeth and the main campaign Elizabeth are two different characters, I can enjoy DLC Liz just as much as the original. But I still see the same girl, slightly hesitant with her new look and ways in Burial At Sea. It's sad to think Episode Two will be the last of BioShock from Irrational, but I hope another company picks the franchise up. It's too good to waste.

Ken Levine is a genius, and a sadist. A genius, because I've probably never seen such a smart, mind-blowing ending in a videogame (but likely neither in a movie). I'm into this multiverse stuff so it all sounded very philosophical and real to me. A game on the true nature of reality, whoa. This goes beyond everything, it makes you question about the real purpose of our moral, ethics and our existence itself. But finding out this evil empire you were trying to defend Elizabeth from all the time is basically your fault (or, to be precise, another universe's you) and that she was your daughter and that you sold her to this hell,  and they suddenly turning into Romeo and Juliet, with a double assisted suicide, that was hard to take to use an euphemism. I was hoping that after all the fighting, all those cruel revelations and all the pain they could share at least one bit of happiness together. But maybe I'm too romantic. However, as you said, even if Booker doesn't touch her, the facts talk for his feelings, after she was taken by the Songbird I don't think he cared much about his life anymore. And Elizabeth? She very explicitly stated she was better dead than taken by the Songbird. Well, she gives herself up to the Songbird. No other love's proof was needed. Bioshock Infinite is both incredibly beautiful and terribly harsh. Sorry for bothering you with my thoughts on BI, but I played the game relatively recently and it left me long-lasting impressions that have not yet faded away.

I'm reading the other chapters of your Tending to those in Need. There are some really sweet scenes. I'm not much for marriage, but you dealt with it very well and made it enjoyable. All the sex scenes are absolutely tasteful, they're hot but there's sensitivity in them, you handle the characters with care. There are some beautifully crafted passages, such as when you wrote how Elizabeth's hair splayed all around her head looked like a dark halo.

Don't be sad about the fate of BioShock. :-) Levine dismantled the whole team (a move I must admit I didn't exactly admire) because he was fed up with all the chores of dealing with triple A games, but I'm sure 2K is going to continue this franchise, it's too valuable to them, they won't let it die like this, I just hope the script for the next game will be at least comparable to that of BI, that is going to be the hard part: Ken Levine is quite a psychologist and I liked his multifaceted approach to the underlying subjects of his games, they'll need a top-notch creative director to replace him.

Please excuse my delayed response! I finished Burial At Sea Episode 2 and I'm left speechless; in a good and bad way.

Ken Levine is definitely a man that's ahead of his time in the gaming industry. He has a knack for storytelling that's so rarely found but also he has the ability to make things that I may not have found interesting in the first place, sound interesting and I want to know more because how he plays it out, how he sets the story in motion, and the details such as the characters in between, very well. Who knows what he's onto next but we can rule out Irrational for obvious reasons. I only hope he continues to produce more creativity and originality in his future projects.

Oh, I'm a romanticist too and I was really holding my breath for Booker and Elizabeth to have some moment of content and relief. But if words cannot speak trust or even love, then actions can. And that's where Levine excelled again. Granted, the ending isn't how I would have preferred, but he made it not so painful for it to end otherwise. You described BioShock Infinite perfectly; beautiful and harsh. Enough of both to get you hooked and also give you the promise that you'll never forget this game. I know I won't. Oh, you mustn't apologize! There are few things I can talk about for days and BI is one of them.

First off, thank you very much for taking the time to read my story. And secondly, I'm glad the sex scenes didn't scare you away! I'm very sensitive and protective of those scenes mainly because I'm still awkward with sharing it. I am trying ("trying" being the keyword) to write another story that's more story than erotica. It's difficult not because of the sex, but trying to write something that fits well after the game but also the DLC. It's all hard to grasp something that is so well thought out and complete and then add something from my own imagination in there, trying to make it fit without force.

Sigh. You are right, haha. It's too good of a franchise to be thrown and left alone. Someone will pick it up. All that's left to worry about is if it'll be any good. It'll be most interesting to see what team they gather if there is a future for BioShock. They have a high mark to meet!

I apologize for such a lengthy reply! My chatter is uncontrollable when BI is the topic.

This is truly incredible! I believe you have drawn Elizabeth perfectly here, especially by accurately capturing her likeness through her expression. The eyes are just downright gorgeous which is so good to see since I'm a huge fan of eyes!

Also, the way you have constructed her hair is just outstanding; the direction & flow of each strand adds a more realistic feel to this beautiful drawing. Job very well done! OMG MOAR POEMS!
